Beautifully remodeled while maintaing its rich history, Balestra is one of our most unique apartments, echoing as much romance as Rome itself. A furnished studio located on historic Via Giulia in the heart of Rome, it combines the right amount of intimacy and comfort with peace and quiet seldom found elsewhere in the city. Recent restructuring has revealed the original wood beamed ceiling and a lovely ancient brick arch. A wonderful characteristic of Balestra is the private museum in the floor. While remodeling, the remains of at least 3 ancient dwellings were found beneath the apartment along with a collection of fascinating artifacts. Rather than destroy these findings in the name of progress, the owner instead built a glass tile into the floor with a little light, so that all guests can enjoy Roman history inside the apartment itself. On the ground floor facing a cozy characteristic courtyard with a stone wash-tub, the silence and history surrounding via Giulia seem surreal as you walk to colorfully hectic Campo De Fiori, or cross over to lively Trastevere. Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, Fori Imperiali, San Pietro, Piazza di Spagna, Ghetto, Castel Sant'Angelo, Colosseo, and so much more are all within a 10 minute walk of this ideally located gem. Via Giulia itself is one thousand meters long and is considered one of the oldest Roman streets. A charmingly elegant cobblestone route, it runs parallel the Tiber river from the Ponte Sisto bridge up to the Chiesa dei Fiorentini church. For example, you can linger at the corner of Via Giulia and Via dei Cimatori; here, the painter Raffael purchased the site of the current building where, just before his death in 1520, he began construction on his new house and work shop. With so much history outside your door and in the apartment itself, a stay in Balestra makes any holiday a memorable one.
