Named for the chapel constructed here in the 4th century, on the property of a Christian woman named Lucina, this Piazza is not only beautiful, but a place of great historical value. Archeological excavations underneath the church brought to light the remains of a Roman house, and also a chamber which appears to be a primitive place of worship. In one of the rooms there is a fragment of the Horologium Augusti. This sundial, dating from 10 BC, consisted of a large piazza paved in travertine on which the lines and writing on the dial were marked out in bronze. Today the Piazza is a popular meeting place for old and young people alike, and boasts such delights as wondeful cafes, like Teichner, just downstairs from your apartment. A 2nd floor view allows for lots of natural light, with double paned windows to keep out any noise. This large studio is ideal for a group of 2 to 4 people, and fully self catering. With extras like a/c, satellite tv, net access (available in building, on request), and a plasma screen tv, Portu Cale is truly an apartment that delivers it all.
