This is one of the liveliest and most evocative squares in Rome. Its name means 'Field of Flowers' and dates back to the middle ages when the area was a meadow. The piazza is dominated by the shadowy figure of Giordano Bruno, a monk who was burned at the stake here for heresy in the year 1600.
Every weekday morning people flock to the square for the open air market which sells fruit, vegetables, spices and other Italian produce. It is a great place to experience the hustle and bustle of Roman life and to pick up some fresh ingredients for dinner.
Campo de Fiori is a popular meeting place for young people, both Italian and foreign, who convene at sunset in the many wine bars and cafes. This is a great place to sit back at the end of a busy day and soak up the atmosphere.
